What we are Seeking:

The Traditional Ecological Knowledge (TEK) Technician who will be responsible for conducting culturally centered TEK interviews with Yukon River Elders and knowledgeable community members about their observations and concerns of the Yukon River environment and fish habitat. 

 

Job Responsibilities and Functions:

  • Work in rural community
  • Conduct outreach to Tribes and community members to request interviews and provide updates on project
  • Attend training events to develop skills for conducting culturally appropriate qualitative ethnographic interviews
  • Travel to communities to record interviews with Elders and knowledgeable community members
  • Relay the organization’s interests and work through collaborative efforts

 

Requirements:

  • Self-motivated and excellent organizational skills with attention to detail
  • Access to the internet and ability to upload program materials
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and complete tasks timely
  • Flexible, amicable, and community-oriented approach

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Comfortable working from home
  • Excellent communication and writing skills
  • Knowledge of local language or translators
  • Knowledge of computers and comfortable using Google Drive

 

Physical demands: Position will require travel to rural communities which may include travel by small airplane, 4-wheeler, snowmachine, and boat. There may be at times adverse weather conditions and hiking around riverbanks to get to fish camps. Often we sleep in schools or Tribal Council offices.  This job also requires sitting or standing at a desk for long periods of time. 

 

Work environment: YRDFA has a virtual office. Staff works at a location of their choice. Communication between staff is done via telephone, email, text and in person meetings.
