Letter from the Fairbanks Fish and Game Advisory Committee (FAC) to the Alaska Board of Fisheries regarding their removal of Proposal #59 from the Kodiak proposal book

A letter from the Fairbanks Fish and Game Advisory Committee (FAC) to the Alaska Board of Fisheries regarding their removal of Proposal #59 from the Kodiak proposal book.

The letter is really about getting a statewide independent dialogue, on a sustained basis, of the impacts of PNP (private non-profit) production on wild salmon stocks.
The “letter” is extensive and written in 3 sections.
(1) The main letter (2 pages)
(2) Background to the action in the letter
(3) Background on the reason (AYK salmon crashes), the literature on hatchery impacts, brief history of Alaska PNP hatcheries and other related information.
The reason for such an extensive document is to relay the importance of getting this discussion in front of the public.
Right now, it is a critical issue coming up at the Yukon River Panel January 22-25th.  We are having heavy conversations about this meeting at the BB/AYK group because of information from the Canadians about the Commissioner ADF&G assuming Canada is on board with a Yukon River production hatchery when they are definitely not.
