SUMMARY:Yukon River Salmon Management Pre-Season Meeting
DESCRIPTION:The all day Pre-season fisheries meeting will bring together Tribal representatives\, state\, and federal fisheries managers\, and other fisheries groups and individuals to talk about the management of the upcoming 2022 summer Chinook and chum salmon fisheries on the Yukon River. The meeting agenda will include presentations from local representatives\, fishery managers\, current research projects\, and include time for community representatives to engage in conversations with each other to provide input with the state and federal managers for each fishing district. \nIn light of the 2020 and 2021 fishing closures\, it is only with the participation of all fishing villages along with the Yukon River\, working together\, that we can address the need to balance careful management of the Chinook and chum salmon in the Yukon River while allowing families to provide for their subsistence needs. While we all long for run strength of the past\, for our salmon to improve it is paramount that Yukon River fisheries and fishery managers\, researchers\, and other stakeholders work closely together for continuing to meet escapement goals in Canada and Alaska while also planning for the proper fishing response based on run strength. \nYRDFA will be following the COVID guidelines from CDC and request all participants mask-up while engaging during the meeting. For your safety and the safety of others we encourage all representatives to test upon returning to their home communities and following their communities quarantining recommendations. \nRepresentatives will be contacted by an employee with their travel logistics. DESCRIPTION:The Alaska Board of Fisheries (board) announces the approaching deadline for submissions of\n2021/2022 meeting cycle agenda change requests (ACR). ACRs are submitted by the public\, advisory committees\, and agencies for proposals on regulatory areas and species not set for deliberation in the current meeting cycle. \nAt its October 20-21\, 2021 Work Session in Anchorage at the Egan Convention Center\, 555 West 5th\nAvenue\, the board will review ACRs for possible scheduling in the 2021/2022 meeting cycle. In order\nfor the board to approve and schedule an ACR for later in the meeting cycle\, the ACR must meet one of the following criteria as established in 5 AAC 39.999. \n• For a fishery conservation purpose or reason.\n• To correct an error in a regulation.\n• To correct an effect on a fishery that was unforeseen when a regulation was adopted. \nACRs are due to Boards Support Section by August 23\, 2021 at the Boards Support Section office in Juneau. A postmark is NOT sufficient for timely receipt.
