SUMMARY:Flooding and Environmental History in the Upper Tanana Region near Manh Choh January
DESCRIPTION:Flooding and Environmental History in the Upper Tanana Region near Manh Choh\n\n\nJanuary 24 @ 12:30 pm to 1:30 pm AKST\n\n\nSpeaker: Jessica Cherry\, NOAA’s Regional Climate Service Director for Alaska\, part of the National Environmental Satellite\, Data\, and Information Service. \nJoin us for this month’s VAWS to review the recent and ancient history of flooding of the Upper Tanana River\, particularly in the area around the road to the Village of Tetlin\, Alaska\, where a feasibility study for the Manh Choh gold mine is underway. This environmental history is derived from published scientific literature\, regional oral history\, and directly from newer satellite and airborne remote sensing\, as well as in situ gage data. This information could be relevant for infrastructure design\, maintenance\, and mitigation of risk from flooding and other hazards in the region.

Representatives from White House Tribal Affairs\, OSTP\, and CEQ will facilitate the Consultations and virtual listening sessions and manage the discussion and order of remarks. \nSpecific questions to guide feedback at these Tribal Consultations and Listening Sessions are listed here. \nWhat would you like Federal employees to know about ITEK?\nThinking about the areas where you engage with the Federal government\, how would you like to work with Federal departments and agencies in the future to ensure that ITEK properly informs Federal processes and policies? What challenges do you foresee?\nWhat terminology should be used (e.g.\, Indigenous Knowledge\, Traditional Ecological Knowledge) when referring to this body of work in the Federal context?\nAre there existing guidance documents\, agreements\, or practices that provide good examples of how ITEK should be elevated in Federal processes and policies?\nThe fifth National Climate Assessment\, currently underway\, is a congressionally-mandated report that assesses observed and projected impacts of climate change across the United States. How do you recommend ITEK be represented in the development processes and content of National Climate Assessments?\nThis is a critical initiative for the Administration\, because we know that by working with knowledge holders in the right ways\, we can achieve better outcomes for people and for the planet. SUMMARY:Yukon River Salmon Management Pre-Season Meeting
DESCRIPTION:The all day Pre-season fisheries meeting will bring together Tribal representatives\, state\, and federal fisheries managers\, and other fisheries groups and individuals to talk about the management of the upcoming 2022 summer Chinook and chum salmon fisheries on the Yukon River. The meeting agenda will include presentations from local representatives\, fishery managers\, current research projects\, and include time for community representatives to engage in conversations with each other to provide input with the state and federal managers for each fishing district. \nIn light of the 2020 and 2021 fishing closures\, it is only with the participation of all fishing villages along with the Yukon River\, working together\, that we can address the need to balance careful management of the Chinook and chum salmon in the Yukon River while allowing families to provide for their subsistence needs. While we all long for run strength of the past\, for our salmon to improve it is paramount that Yukon River fisheries and fishery managers\, researchers\, and other stakeholders work closely together for continuing to meet escapement goals in Canada and Alaska while also planning for the proper fishing response based on run strength. \nYRDFA will be following the COVID guidelines from CDC and request all participants mask-up while engaging during the meeting. For your safety and the safety of others we encourage all representatives to test upon returning to their home communities and following their communities quarantining recommendations. \nRepresentatives will be contacted by an employee with their travel logistics. If you have any questions you can contact me at 907-272-3141 or email at serena@yukonsalmon.org. \nQuyana for your time and we look forward to seeing everyone. \nJoin Zoom Meeting \nPlease click on the link to join the meeting.\nhttps://us06web.zoom.us/j/89415533778?pwd=WFNWaTh5WmN5WllDVjZTMU9YWEcxdz09 \nMeeting ID: 894 1553 3778\nPasscode: 193668 \nIF YOU CANNOT JOIN VIRTUALLY\, YOU CAN CALL IN BY USING ONE OF THE TOLL-FREE NUMBERS \nDial by your location\n877 853 5247 US Toll-free\n888 788 0099 US Toll-free\n833 548 0276 US Toll-free\n833 548 0282 US Toll-free\nMeeting ID: 894 1553 3778 \n  \n  \nFINAL Pre-season Agenda (3)\n345769-Preseason Meeting Booklet PROOF (1)\nYRDFA Preseason Meeting_ADFG Summer Mgmt_3-21\n2022 YRDFA Preseason Meeting_Fall Season\nfact-sheet-fsa22-01-02-03-04-final2\nLower Yukon salmon id guide (1)\nYRFDA march 2022 final
